Event Summary

On 6/22/2026, New York City experienced periods of heavy rain and severe thunderstorms that produced localized flash flooding and hazardous travel conditions. Rainfall totals ranged from approximately 0.75 to 2 inches across the city, with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches and rainfall rates reaching 1–2 inches per hour during the strongest thunderstorms. Flooding primarily affected poor-drainage and low-lying areas, with ponding reported on roadways. Severe thunderstorms also produced strong wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines. A citywide Flood Watch was in effect, and NYCEM activated the City’s Flash Flood Emergency Plan in preparation for the event.
